"What I particularly like about Chippenham and why. What I would like to see improved in Chippenham and why."

Essay by Emma Poole.

There are many reasons why I like Chippenham and in this essay I am going to talk about those reasons as well as what I think could happen to Chippenham in order to improve this homely town.

Firstly, there's the feeling you get after a really long day out somewhere or when you come back from holiday. You recently explored practically a whole new world - it was unfamiliar and new yet when you come back home to Chippenham, everything you see is recognisable! You know that even if the car breaks down you could walk home and rest in a nice comfy bed then come back in the morning and sort the car out.

Secondly, I like the travel options. To name a few there is your parents but when they can't take you there are buses and trains you can take. For example, when my friends and I went to Bath we took the train. It was really cheap as we got child tickets (under £5 for two including return!).

Next, I would like to point out the easily-accessible cities nearby. Chippenham is in a great area as if you want to go shopping you can choose from loads of places around here to shop for example Bristol or Swindon. This means there is a wide range of products you can buy within this area to suit everyday needs. If it were possible for me to improve our junctions and roundabouts however, I would ask for it to have been designed differently as when there is roadwork or an accident then basically the whole town is at a stand-still.

Even though there are plenty of travel ways to get to the better shopping locations, we have shops of our own in Chippenham. Along the high street there are plenty of shops which are perfect when spending time with friends in town. However, if you don't fancy shopping (How can you not?) then there are many entertainment facilities. Here in Chippenham there is a leisure centre, a cinema and also a golf course. Even though I don't play golf this is still good for some people. If I could improve Chippenham, entertainment-wise then I would ask for there to be a bowling alley somewhere near the cinema. Although this might be impossible, personally, I think it would improve Chippenham and also increase the number of jobs in this area. In addition I think that it would save petrol and mean less car emissions.

To continue on my thoughts of Chippenham I think that we are quite good at solving environmental issues. On numerous occasions I have witnessed people picking up the rubbish on my estate. I don't know whether this happens in other parts of Chippenham but it saves many lives of the animals that could have been fatally endangered by the litter. Nothing can be done to improve this aspect apart from keeping it up!

Also I would like to point out recycling. By the supermarkets there are recycling points but also there is the dump. This means that we can get rid of waste without harming the world we live in. Another point to add about recycling is the brown bins. In these you put things like garden waste which is turned into compost and then sold to make a profit. I think that this is an amazing way to recycle and I hope it will continue.

To conclude, I hope you like and understand all of the points I have made in this essay about why I like Chippenham and also my suggestions as to what could be done to improve it. What do you think?
